Welcome from the MBLA President

I am honored to serve as the President of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association for the 2017-2018 program year, and I am excited about where we are headed as an organization.  The MBLA has alw

ays focused on advancing and enhancing opportunities for African American attorneys in the Massachusetts legal community.  Without a doubt, the MBLA membership has benefited from a long line of strong and dedicated leaders and supporters. Their commitment to  the development and retention of minority attorneys has created a pipeline of extraordinary talent.

The MBLA legacy is strong and continues to grow. The 2016-2017 program year marked another successful year for the MBLA.  The goal for the 2017-2018 program year is to build on the success of my predecessors by enhancing member resources and cultivating new member opportunities.  As we set out to define the strategic goals of the MBLA that will guide the leadership team, our mission is clear.  At a time when diversity and inclusion is at the forefront of every profession, attorneys need to be the pacesetters.  To this end, it is important that the MBLA continues to offer innovative programming that advances this mission.  I am excited that the Board of Directors for the 2017-2018 program year is comprised of individuals from all sectors of the legal community with varying levels of experience.  With this group, the Board not only reflects our membership base, but it is uniquely positioned to address the concerns of our diverse membership body.

On behalf of the MBLA Board of Directors, I look forward to seeing you at our programs and events throughout the year, and hope that you will take every opportunity to get involved with the MBLA.  If you are not a member, but share our goals and mission, please take a moment to join today.

Sincerely in service,

Courtney B. Scrubbs
