MBLA Student Scholarships 2017 – Nominations due FEBRUARY 17, 2017

The Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association is pleased to announce that we are currently accepting nominations for the Honorable Justice Roderick L. Ireland Leadership and Juvenile Advocacy Award and the Judge Reginald Lindsay Public Service Award.

Nominations must be submitted via email by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17th, 2017.

The Honorable Chief Justice Roderick L. Ireland Leadership and Juvenile Advocacy Award ($1,500)

The Honorable Chief Justice Roderick L. Ireland Leadership and Juvenile Advocacy Award seeks to support the development of students who, like Chief Justice Ireland, have exhibited a commitment to developing strong leadership skills and a passion for juvenile advocacy.  In his honor, this award is aimed at law school students of color who have demonstrated a commitment to juvenile advocacy in a variety of ways and who have demonstrated leadership abilities.  The nominee should exhibit more than academic ability, but also should possess the very qualities that make Chief Justice Ireland such an asset to the legal profession: intellect, leadership, compassion, and dedication to juvenile rights.

Nominations for the Honorable Chief Justice Roderick L. Ireland Leadership and Juvenile Advocacy Award must be submitted via email to D’Andre Fernandez, MBLA Director and Co-Chair of the MBLA’s Student Support Committee at dtfernandez@gmail.com.

The Honorable Reginald Lindsay Public Service Award ($1,000)

The Honorable Reginald Lindsay Public Service Award seeks to support the development of students who, like Judge Lindsay, have overcome adversity to use their outstanding academic ability and skills in public service. In his honor, this award is aimed at law school students of color who have demonstrated their commitment to public service. The nominee should exhibit more than academic ability, but also should possess the very qualities that made Judge Lindsay such an asset to the legal profession: compassion, perspective and honor.

Nominations for The Honorable Reginald Lindsay Public Service Award must be submitted via email to Shaneka Davis, Co-Chair of the MBLA’s Student Support Committee at shanekadavis@gmail.com.

 

The award recipients and their nominators will be notified in early March and the recipients will be presented with their respective awards at the MBLA Gala on Thursday March 16, 2017.
