Governor’s Council Unanimously Confirms Nomination of Kimberly Budd to Supreme Judicial Court

The MBLA is excited to announce that the Governor’s Council unanimously confirmed Governor Charlie Baker’s nomination of Judge Kimberly Budd to become an Associate Justice on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
Judge Budd has served as an Associate Justice on the Massachusetts Superior Court since 2009.  She was nominated by Governor Deval Patrick and received an unanimous vote from the Governor’s Council.  Judge Budd currently serves as the Regional Administrative Justice for Middlesex County and is responsible for the management and administration of criminal cases within Middlesex Superior Court.
Prior to taking her seat on the bench, Judge Budd worked in private practice, the public sector, and academia.  She started her legal career as a law clerk for the Chief Justice of the Massachusetts Appeals Court.  She later joined Mintz, Levin, Cohn, Ferris, Clovsky and Popeo P.C. as a litigation associate.  Judge Budd later became an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Massachusetts. Judge Budd also worked for Harvard University in the General Counsel’s Office and served as Director of the Community Values Program at Harvard Business School.  Judge Budd’s experiences undoubtedly make her qualified to serve on the SJC.
When Judge Budd joins the SJC in the fall, she will be the third African-American justice to serve on the oldest appellate court in the country.
The MBLA congratulates Judge Budd on her historic appointment!
