Board of Bar Overseers’ Recruitment of Pro Bono Lawyers

The Board of Bar Overseers of the Supreme Judicial Court announces the formation of a panel of attorneys to represent lawyers on a pro bono or reduced fee basis in disciplinary cases. The BBO is the disciplinary authority for lawyers in Massachusetts. It adjudicates petitions for discipline as well as petitions for reinstatement.

There is a growing need for pro bono or reduced fee representation of lawyers in BBO proceedings. Representation is needed at every stage of the process, from the initial investigation by the Office of Bar Counsel through hearing and appeal. Lawyers also need counsel when applying for reinstatement to the bar following suspension or disbarment.

To fulfill this need, the BBO will establish a panel of lawyers to provide representation in disciplinary and reinstatement proceedings. No prior experience in bar discipline cases is required. The BBO will provide training and written materials.

This is an excellent opportunity for lawyers to become more knowledgeable in legal ethics and gain trial experience, while providing a valuable service to the bar and the public.

The BBO seeks applicants with diverse backgrounds and experience, and encourages applicants from outside the Boston area.

Interested applicants should send a letter of interest and resume to: Applications should be submitted by September 29, 2017.
