MBLA LAW STUDENT MENTORING PROGRAM

 

The Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association is ready to embark on a successful year of our Mentorship Program!   The MBLA will match a law student with an attorney based on the areas of practice and the law student's areas of interest.  

 

Law Students:     You will have the opportunity to gain an attorney mentor who can answer your questions about thriving in law school, provide advice about preparing for graduation and taking the bar exam, help you explore career options, assist you to write resumes and prepare for interviews or share with you his or her experience in the actual practice of law as a black lawyer.

 

LAW STUDENT JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Summer 2008
1 Full time opening
Includes some of  the below duties in addition to attending hearings, researching and drafting Commission decisions.
2 Part time opening
The Massachusetts Civil Service Commission requires the assistance of volunteer 2d or 3rd year law student interns.  This entry-level position involves maintaining Commission paper and electronic files, case-tracking systems, summarizing and indexing relevant Superior Court and appellate court decisions, preparing Administrative Records for Commission decisions on appeal to the Superior Court, conducting occasional research and drafting concise and timely memoranda thereon.
 
Fall 2008
3 openings
1 Full time opening

MBLA BOOK SCHOLARSHIPS

 

The Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association is pleased to announce our winners of the MBLA Book Scholarship Program for the 2008-2009 academic year:

 

Reginald Champagne                                       Boston University School of Law  

 

Shabnam Masmasarmi                                                         Suffolk University School of Law

 

Scholarships of $500 per student are awarded to two law students each academic year.  Awards presentations are made at the MBLA Gala Dinner. 

 

The MBLA Scholarships are intended to be awarded each academic year to a black law student who demonstrates leadership potential, maturity and responsibility, a commitment to making a contribution to the black community and any other indications of overall excellence.

 

NOTE:  Law students must be enrolled in a Massachusetts law school to qualify.  Applications are accepted from February through March for the upcoming school year.
