Description: The Massachusetts Civil Service Commission requires the
assistance of 2 Summer & 2 Fall interns. We seek 2nd or 3rd year law
students who are willing to volunteer for 20 hrs or more in the summer
and approximately 10 hours per week in the fall. This entry-level
position involves maintaining Commission paper and electronic files,
case-tracking systems, summarizing and indexing relevant Superior Court
and appellate court decisions, preparing Administrative Records for
Commission decisions on appeal to the Superior Court, conducting
occasional research and drafting concise and timely memoranda thereon.
Duties may be expanded to include drafting Commission decisions for an
intern who masters the entry-level functions and demonstrates the
requisite research and writing abilities. Applicants must make a 6-month
commitment to the internship.

duties are to analyze and direct the defense of extra-contractual litigation against the

Liberty Mutual has an exciting opportunity available for a highly qualified attorney who is either
a specialist or highly experienced generalist handling complex legal assignments. As a
Home Office Counsel, you will provide legal advice and carry out actions which have an
impact upon the rights, privileges and responsibilities of the Company while maintaining high
standards of legal and business ethics and professional responsibility. Minimum of five
years legal experience to provide advice on property and casualty insurance coverage
matters. Excellent research and writing skills required. Previous insurance coverage
experience preferred. Applicants must provide writing sample on insurance coverage related
issues.
Responsibilities:
Provide high quality oral and written legal advice in a cost-effective manner to internal clients.
Recommend practical courses of action to achieve client goals within the scope of what is
legally permissible.
Perform comprehensive research and analysis of reported cases, statutes, regulations and
other legal materials regarding issues often characterized by an absence of clear legal
precedent and renders clear and unambiguous legal opinions and advice as necessary.
Representative duties include: Drafting and reviewing legal documents (e.g. contracts,
insurance policies, leases) involving substantial legal issues; Investigation, research,
drafting, negotiation and appearances on behalf of the Company in litigation, and managing
outside counsel in connection with litigation; Representing the Company before regulatory
and administrative bodies; Providing advice regarding the implications of new laws
substantially impacting the Company's business; and Anticipating legal issues and
encouraging practices to prevent problems from arising.
Other duties may vary according to practice group.
Qualifications:
Completion of law school with a J.D. or L.L.B. degree and admission to the bar of at least one
jurisdiction in the United States required.
Generally requires at least five years' experience as a practicing attorney.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to conduct research and analysis of legal issues.
Within certain practice groups, may require in-depth knowledge of a specialized area of law.

The Franklin County Bar Advocates, Inc. continually seeks qualified ethically diverse
candidates for its panel. We are a non-profit organization which contracts with the Committee
for Public Counsel Services (C.P.C.S.) to assign private counsel to represent indigent
defendants charged with criminal offenses in the district and superior courts here in Franklin
County.
